Climatic health resort Mitterfels in the Bavarian Forest Often the climatic health resort Mitterfels is called the ”Gate to the Bavarian Forest”. At an altitude of 400 – 500 m the town is situated on the first hills of the low mountain range, only 15 km away from Straubing, the capital of this area, the ”Gäuboden”. There are very few small towns that can look back to a history of 800 years like Mitterfels can. For more than 7 centuries an important country and district court was in this town. It is here that in 1847 the last public execution in Bavaria took place. However, in the meantime Mitterfels has become more hospitable. Since the fifties the town has concentrated itself on developing itself into an attractive centre for tourists. You also find the old castle situated at the end of old Mitterfels and the museum with an equipment of old farmers tools and original prison cells from the 15th century. Come and look! It is situated in a delighful and natural location. The old local centre pushed its way onto a narrow mountain ridge, the end of which is surrounded by a massive castle complex. The slopes drop away to the deep valley of the ”Perlbach”, being an Eldorado for every angler with its 8 km of ”fishwater”. From the open country around Mitterfels a wide panoramic view offers itself: to the South the view over the expansive plains of the Danube, to the West, North and East to the mountain range of the Bavarian Forest. There are numerous possibilities for spending your leisure time: A heated outdoor panorama pool connected with an indoor pool, tennis courts and two covered tennis courts with comprehensive sport equipment (video system, ball machine), nature trails and a museum of folklore provide for relaxion and entertainment. Moreover, friends of winter sports get their money’s worth in Mitterfels and its adjoining areas. Golf course 18-hole = 7 km. In this climatic health resort there is accomodation for every taste and financial situation, starting with simple and low price private accommodation up to luxury apartments wich are being offered in new apartment hotel complex built in country house style. Here TV, complete kitchen, bathroom or shower and WC are standard. There are also covered and open air tennis courts. sauna, solarium, covered swimmingpool and many other things. Moreover, the tourist information office of Mitterfels arranges holidays on farms. The importance of Mitterfels as state-approved climatic health resort also needs to be mentioned. The town’s favourable altitude provides it with a climate that can be used therapeutically. For this reason everyone can undergo a cure in Mitterfels to his heart’s content.
